DevCareer(Laptops4Developers), a blessing or a waste of 3 months?

I’m aware that this article may surprise some Nigerian techies who are familiar with DevCareer, therefore I want to remind you all that I was a program recipient and can speak from personal experience.

For those who are unfamiliar with DevCareer, it is a non-profit company that is committed to providing resources to help aspiring developers and designers so they may develop into industry-standard techies and become employable after finishing any programme they are accepted into.

I am a beneficiary of their recently concluded cohort (Cohort 3) of their Laptops4Developers program which ended on the 16th of December 2022.

I distinctly recall passing their exams and interview to get a spot in the program because I was so excited about it and wanted to finally discover the truth behind the hype and advance in frontend programming. Instead, I was astounded to discover several surprises.

We started back up on September 19th, 2022, and these last three months has got to be the ones that saw the most rapid growth in my entire life!

I entered the program with a foundational understanding of HTML, CSS, and Javascript, and I graduated with projects using React, Next, SCSS, and Typescript. You did read that correctly. I had picked up four new technologies — four that I never imagined I would learn in under three months — enough to construct projects🥺.

In the hub I was assigned to, I met incredible techies in various stacks. My frontend team and I worked with the most considerate, disciplined, and amazing mentor, who also gave us difficult tasks (as e dey hot! 😂) to stretch our capacity. Putting aside the newly acquired technology I learned, I really improved my capacity to collaborate, be accountable, produce projects in a timely manner, and operate in a team.

The one and only HackSultan examined my LinkedIn profile and offered advice on how to make it more optimized😭🔥. I also had the chance to get up-to-date business advice on how to format my resume from a professional TalentQL Technical recruiter, Adaeze Nzekwe 🤗.

I don’t know about the rest of you, but DevCareer is one of the best things that could have ever occurred to me in 2022 (because na only me know wetin my eye see this year! 😂). I also encourage the more recent cohorts to work as hard as they can to get accepted into their upcoming programs because I can tell you that they will advance you at an incomprehensible rate and e go shock you😂🚀.

After finishing this program, I can personally attest that my career has changed completely and is now on a trajectory to greater heights. There is little doubt that my name would be well-known in the Nigerian tech community!

I also want to thank the sponsors, partners and organizers for putting this program together. I grew more in the past 3months than I did 12 months before the program and this techie is super grateful🙏. This techie now alumni, will make you all proud and that’s a promise!

Stay learning y’all! 🚀

My fellow hub techies and I on the last day of the program🥺❤, (I’m the lady on shorts😌).
